Opinion Survey Opinion Survey

This post is for people to voice their concerns about opinion surveys and emails. As they are very important subjects critical to the well-being of the graduate & professional student body, you are encouraged to devote your time and energy to addressing them in a thoughtful and well-reasoned manner.

Welcome to New Mexico!!
Here in New Mexico, you can enroll at CNM junior high. If you are smart enough to pass, you can get some big people pants and go to UNM high school, where in 4 years you might have a degree. If you are really special, you can get more degrees than a thermometer and then make $28,000 a year!!!

I don't know where else to leave this comment, so I'll leave it here. Amidst all this controversy, it's escaped the GPSA's attention that some very basic functions of the GPSA are not being met. We are now about four weeks past the deadline for results to be announced for the ST grant, and results have still not been released. At this rate, is it even possible for those who are awarded the ST grant to receive it before the Fall semester is over? When I inquired in the GPSA office, I was told that the person in charge of the grant had been MIA for over a week, but was told that the results should be available this week. Funny, I was told that same thing three weeks ago. I don't know who needs to be held accountable for this, but this is unacceptable. Do the rules and procedures set up by the GPSA mean nothing? Is there anyone else as upset about this as I am? In all this politically driven discussion, it bothers me that the fundamental functions of the GPSA are not happening.

Jessica,
I would have sent you a personal e-mail, but I can't find your e-mail address, so I'll just post here.

I'm not sure if it would help, but you could attend the GPSA Council meeting this Saturday (10:00a.m. in the SUB Lobo A & B). The ST committee chair (the person in charge of ST) should be there or should have a written report to the Council. I anticipate that others are having the same questions as you and this will be brought up in Council during the reporting from the Committee Chairs (which happens near the beginning of the meeting).

You could also stand up in Media and Gallery (this takes place at the beginning of the meeting) and express your concerns if you so choose. I've never seen a Grad or Prof student do this, but I don't think there is any reason you can't.

Alternatively, if you have a Council rep, you can request to them that they bring it up in the meeting. If your department doesn't have a Council rep, figure out how to become one (contact Mel Armstrong, the Council Chair...you just need the credential form filled out properly) and voice your concerns with more power as a Council rep, even if you only go to this meeting.

SRAC being a week or so late is one thing, but ST not being done this far into the semester is ridiculous. There was a problem similar to this with GRD several years ago, and everyone was complaining loudly (because it was $3000-$5000 award). I'm concerned that with so few students applying for ST and the fact that it is considerably less money, that the ST applicants are not being heard.

There are accounting rules that need followed and I have no idea whether the ST grants can actually be accessed this late. That is a good question. Someone more knowledgeable should have the answer (Maybe Debbie Morris, the advisor for GPSA?).
